We had the amazing opportunity to expand our horizons this year, by reaching out to patients at Oschner Children's Hospital in New Orleans while Rowan was in town for the Kidd's Kids Golf Tournament. He joined forces with his honorary "brothers", firemen from two local fire departments, the Terrytown F.D. and the Marrero Ragusa F. D. The firemen raised money for his foundation earlier this year, so we wanted to put some of that money back into their own community. It was such a joy and an honor. (You can read more about Rowan's connection with these awesome men, and see photos of the patient gifts that we purchased, on the previous post)
Here is Rowan with Matt Ducote, at the Kidd's Kids Golf Tournament the day before they went to the hospital to deliver toys. Matt is the one who initiated the Firefighters fundraising for Rowan's Foundation. They are best buddies.
Here are some photos of Rowan putting foundation labels on all the goodies boxed up to take down to New Orleans...
Rowan, dressed in his own uniform, headed to meet the other firefighters...
And as promised, here are some photos of Rowan's visit to Oschner Hospital with the firemen, and our family ...
We had a few extra helpers too...
We donated toys, arts and crafts, play-doh, books, barbies, blankets, legos, and flavored chapsticks.
Rowan was so excited when one of the nurses said she just had a patients asking for some chapstick,
because he was carrying a bag filled with 115 of them!
The nurses were very grateful, said that the patients were going to be very excited and that Child Life would start passing them out the next day. Then they posed for a few pictures with us.
Finally, we got some great photos of the boys.
As you can probably tell, Rowan had a few poses he wanted them all to do:)
Thanks to Rowan's "brothers" for helping us organize this, for their fundraising efforts, and for serving your community so well. We appreciate you all so much, and can't wait to do this again next year!
